Seminary has been good for us. We’re constantly reminded that we have no abiding place here. As soon as we get comfortable in one “home” we end up moving to a new “home”. Then we visit our old “home” with mom, and then move to Amy’s family’s newer “home” and then drive past our summer internship “home” etc…the story of homelessness goes on and will continue to go on until we’re called to our heavenly home.
It all makes for a time of growth in our understanding of home. What is home all about, anyways? We’re called to take heart in the precious promise that the Lord Jesus is preparing for us a home in heaven, with our faithful heavenly Father. Forever with him: Oh! What a thought! In that place, everything is centered around the unchanging God of glory! All things will be fixed forever….eternally unchanging foundations, because it is all going to be centered on Him.
In a world of flux, where the majority of homes, people, ideas and places are not centered on God our Father, we’re left looking towards, hoping towards, and at times, but not often enough: *longing for* this blessed heavenly home.
If you have a few moments to listen and mull over more of the same, listen to Tim Keller’s message: “God our Father”
