. . . because he has such a good one!

Hard to believe these little hands may well grow this big one day . . . !!

“To please God . . . to be a real ingredient in the divine happiness . . . to be loved by God, not merely pitied, but delighted in as an artist delights in his work or a father in a son – it seems impossible, a weight or burden of glory which our thoughts can hardly sustain. But it is so.”

– C.S. Lewis, “The Weight of Glory”

Some Summer Highlights September 3, 2010

Filed under: family — steveamy @ 12:00

Amy and I had what we might even call the “best summer of our lives”, serving at Messiah’s Independent Reformed Church in Holland, Michigan.  We loved our condo that the church provided for us, with horses in view and ducks waddling around, it was pretty scenic.  Sierra loved exploring..sometimes a little too much…and how often did she get into that snack cupboard beside the fridge!!

The Japanese Maple in our front yard was worth taking pictures of, as were the lilies and other flowers in the area that Amy took many pictures of!

One  highlight for us was the fireworks celebration on July 4, at a well-driller’s home just south of the church.  This man personally pays for over an hour of fireworks that thrill a few thousand people and apparently cost him multiples of 10 thousand dollars.  The display was a bit loud for Sierra’s liking.

We made a point of spending a good amount of “together time “- typically at the beach on Saturday nights or the odd bike ride here or there.  Sierra loved having her family visit her – Louise,  Tim & Charlene & Megan and Mom and sister Karissa all spent time with us over the summer.

Sierra loves life, from all we can tell! A few pictures tell some of her happy moments.

We’re going to miss the dear people of Messiah’s – we hold them in our hearts and pray for them often.  It’s amazing how the Spirit of God can weave your hearts together in such a short time.  We will not forget their testimonies.  God encouraged us through them more than words can express.

It was a stretching experience to preach twice a week and do most of the visiting, but God provided much grace – and He used the summer to encourage and strengthen our resolve to continue studying and preaching, for his glory!

We were reminded that the church is the beautiful bride of Christ, and that we as Christ’s members are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit! Is that not incredible?

Believers are part of a beautiful redemption story that is binding us with the church of all ages, and around the world!

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.
Oh, give thanks to the God of gods! For His mercy endures forever.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords! For His mercy endures forever:
To Him who alone does great wonders, For His mercy endures forever;
To Him who by wisdom made the heavens, For His mercy endures forever;
To Him who laid out the earth above the waters, For His mercy endures forever;
To Him who made great lights, For His mercy endures forever–
The sun to rule by day, For His mercy endures forever;
The moon and stars to rule by night, For His mercy endures forever.
To Him who struck Egypt in their firstborn, For His mercy endures forever;
And brought out Israel from among them, For His mercy endures forever;
With a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, For His mercy endures forever;
To Him who divided the Red Sea in two, For His mercy endures forever;
And made Israel pass through the midst of it, For His mercy endures forever;
But overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea, For His mercy endures forever;
To Him who led His people through the wilderness, For His mercy endures forever;
To Him who struck down great kings, For His mercy endures forever;
And slew famous kings, For His mercy endures forever–
Sihon king of the Amorites, For His mercy endures forever;
And Og king of Bashan, For His mercy endures forever–
And gave their land as a heritage, For His mercy endures forever;
A heritage to Israel His servant, For His mercy endures forever.
Who remembered us in our lowly state, For His mercy endures forever;
And rescued us from our enemies, For His mercy endures forever;
Who gives food to all flesh, For His mercy endures forever.
Oh, give thanks to the God of heaven! For His mercy endures forever.

Isaiah Pieter’s arrived! September 2, 2010

Filed under: family — steveamy @ 10:29

Isaiah’s presence has long been felt, and for the last five days of being overdue we couldn’t wait for the great day of delivery (or is it deliverance?) to come!

God graciously gave us our son early Monday morning.  So now we see him, this little guy who has been growing in the safety of Amy’s womb for much of the past year.  It reminds us of another relationship that will one day be face to face, not too long from now.  (Rev 22.20)

He loves to sleep.  And eat.  Among other things.  It seems everything is working just fine, including some new aspects about boys which are really something for us to get used to. 🙂

I won’t go into the labor specifics, other than to say the Lord gave Amy a calm and even relaxed way about her, until about an hour before the baby came – and even then she did so well!  Thanks to all who were praying for us! One really senses the LORD’s nearness and personal presence through the whole experience.

Sierra loves her little brother – and will make an amazing sister and second mommy. 🙂

We praise God for his faithfulness, and pray our son would grow in faith in HIM, as per the verse we gave him:

The LORD lives!
Blessed be my Rock! (Pieter)
Let the God of my salvation (Isaiah) be exalted!
Psalm 18:46
